Breaking the Barrier

Many people remain hesitant to schedule a massage because they feel discomforted in the idea of "dressing down" and allowing a stranger
 to work on them.
Little do they know, at Personalized Harmony privacy is our specialty.

How do we help with this?
1.) Our building has frosted windows to begin the process on closing off the outside world and giving you time to breathe and take a break.

2.) You "dress down" to your comfort level. Depending on the part of the body that will be focused on, it is suggested that for example:
Your provider will focus on your upper body.
It is suggested for both men and women to remove their clothing on their upper body.
This allows the provider to solely work on the muscle without irritating the skin from the fabric.

3.) Nothing is exposed! The entire time your body will be covered with a comfortable blanket, and at no point will it be moved unless you switch from the frontside to the backside, and even then you remain covered!

4.) Our Providers are Professionals. They are skilled to assist your body in getting the physical results you need, and go a step further to relieving emotional stress as well. You and your body are interconnected. When one part is taken care of, so is the other.

Who is Kristen Douglas?

Kristen Douglas is our newest member of our team! She has been practicing for 2 years now, and is also apprenticing with Casey Barker!
Her skills includes many specialty techniques such as trigger point therapy and myofascial release.
Her bright positivity shines at the introduction of every client, and it can be guaranteed discomfort doesn't exist when having a session with Kristen.

What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger Point Therapy involves techniques that require locating pressure points that may be a culprit to creating tension within one's body. As Kristen locates the pressure points she uses her skills to painlessly relax the area.

What is Myofascial Release?

First let's explain what Fascia is: Fascia is a thin sheath of tissue that covers your muscles that is right below your skin. Occasionally, fascia can actually itself become less flexible causing you to feel discomfort in your muscle. Once your fascia becomes tightened, your muscles it covers looses some movement and the muscle and the fascia could work against each other causing pain or tension.

Myofascial release is gently targeting the fascia below the skin and with the right skills the fascia can once again be renewed, relaxed, and movement is revitalized for both the muscle and the fascia.

What Else can Kristen Do?

Kristen is greatly fit for Deep Tissue Massage, Firm Relaxation, Hot Stones Specialty, CBD Included Massage, Headache Relief, Relax and Release, and her very own Himalayan Hot Stones Specialty.

When is She Available?

Welcome the weekend with sweet relaxation!
Kristen is available to schedule with from Thursdays to Saturdays.

Gardening Tips & Tricks!

Gardening tips & tricks

Stretching before you begin your gardening is an important key in protecting your body from injury. Also stretch periodically during to help alleviate aches/pains.

  1. Tall like a tree: feet shoulder width apart. Slowly bring arms above your head, as far as you can, while keeping them shoulder width apart. Sway left and right slowly, holding each side for a 5 second count. -helps elongate the spine
  2. Touching the Earth: with feet shoulder width apart, slowly bend your body over, walking hands down your legs towards the ground. Your knees should have a slight bend in them and you want to try and reach as close to the ground as you can. -improves length of muscles in legs/back
  3. Shoulder/Upper back stretch: With arms out in front of you, turn your hands in towards you and interlock fingers together. Push arms out in front of you and hold for 20-30 seconds, while slowly pushing hands out.

For shoveling, make sure you’re using good body alignment. Be sure to lean as much of your body weight into the shovel as possible while digging. When dumping the shovel, use your whole body. Turn your whole rather than just your upper body, and not just your arms.

When pulling weeds, grab a stool or a bucket! This will save your knees, as well as your hips and back by removing pressure. If you need to lean/bend forward to pull a weed, try to sit on your “sitting bones” and keep your posture and avoid rounding your back.

When lifting heavy bags (mulch, soil, etc.) be sure to lift with your legs. Bend at your hips and knees and as you lower, keep your spine straight. Your hips and knees are stronger to handle the weight of lifting.

Some other easy things to do are;
  • Use a cart or wheelbarrow to do your heavy lifting and know your limits of what you can lift/carry.
  • Get planters/containers off the ground when potting to avoid bending and straining. This allows you to keep your knees and back in a comfortable position.
  • Try to keep a cushion for your knees nearby if you don’t have a sturdy bucket/stool available and use tools with longer handles.

Chiropractic/Massage Alliance

Combining massage therapy and chiropractic treatment improves nervous system function as a whole.
The muscles inside your body hold your bones together. Massage before a chiropractic adjustment allows for an easier adjustment. When the bones are aligned, there is no pressure on the nerves, causing less tension and accelerating your recovery time tremendously.

Chiropractic/Massage therapy care also aids in;
  • Overall improvement of immune system function
  • Increase in flexibility
  • Increase in blood flow
  • Overall improvement of range of motion

Creating an Active Treatment plan is best for chronic pain and/or immediate needs. This would include 2-3 chiropractic adjustments a week, with 1 massage weekly.
An alternative to this would be, bi-weekly recovery or monthly maintenance.
We work alongside Dr. Rodney Brown at Crestwood Chiropractic (502) 243-3334

Benefits of  a Massage

3/5/2019

There is a reason why Massage is such an important practice. Through its peaceful, relaxing environment it is known and proven through research to be one of the most impactful ways to better your body and self-living. Your body and mind will consume countless benefits from just a 15 minute treatment. Incorporating massage into your schedule weekly of course will become pricey, however treating yourself to a session every 2-3 weeks will leave you speechless at the difference of how you’ll be living your days feeling renewed.

Body

During your busy schedules, you put your body through countless amounts of stress without even realizing until you reach those moments of pesky aches and pains when trying to sit down, get up, or attempt to relax for that short time you have for yourself. Let’s also consider when you are exercising and you get to end the day with feeling sore instead of feeling great.
Luckily, Massage is one of the many treatments that can efficiently target those overused muscles. By getting a massage, it will thoroughly decrease the stiffness, pain, and inflammation all the while you get to finally feel what relaxation truly is. It works by increasing the flow of pluripotent stem cells, whose jobs are to produce any tissue your body needs to repair.
Not only does this treatment relieve the pain, it will also increase the circulation of white blood cells. This is effective for boosting your bodies immune system, to keep sickness at bay. Getting kneaded out pushes these primary defense cells to fight against more serious infections due to the clear pathways this treatment will allow your body to leave with.
This treatment is strongly effective for those who continuously suffer from headaches, chronic pain, and limited range. The specific movements from the hands of your provider can decrease the headaches, pain, and increase your range of motion all at the same time. By treating yourself to regular massage treatments, your allowing your body to serve you in a better, efficient, and more comfortable way as you live through your stressful, continuously challenging path of life. The beauty of this treatment is that it makes pressures of life a bit more bearable, all the while you get to experience a sense of calm both physically and mentally.

Mind
If you are one of the people to deal with stress, anxiety, depression (and more) allow this treatment to be apart of your schedule regularly. Massage is known to relax your nervous system as you are in a comfortable, safe environment. It is also known and proven through research this treatment increases serotonin, a chemical in your brain that is a formula for calm, and decrease cortisol.
For those who struggle with Insomnia, your in luck. There has been a connection between sleepless nights and a lack of serotonin, which as stated above can be helped with Massage sessions. Allowing your body to regenerate, and repower itself with this kind of treatment might leave you living a better life.
Lastly, through the peaceful time you have all to yourself to relax, your giving your own brain a chance to keep up. By the time your session is finished, you’ll be able to walk back out to the world feeling more prepared, and refreshed. It truly is a natural solution to picking yourself up after running yourself down in the world we are in today.

Plantar fasciitis, What is it?

2/22/2019

Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common causes of terrible foot pain. At the bottom of your foot, there is a thick band of tissue known as your Fascia, that connects to your toes and your heel bone. This pain is usually recognized through sharp pain after you take your first couple of steps in the morning, and can also be triggered by long periods of standing/walking. It is usually caused by inadequate support in your shoes, other than that a cause is very hard to pinpoint.

What can i do to help the pain?

There are plenty of natural at home remedies to help decrease the aggravating pain. Things you should try:
--Use a band, or towel to wrap around your toes and pull your foot back towards you while your leg is straight, this will help stretch the fascia in your foot, and the tendons connected that is also contributing to the tension.
--Use a frozen water bottle and roll it underneath your foot for 5-10 minutes.
--Try using a bucket or tub of hot water with Epsom salt and golf balls. Roll the golf balls under your feet to break up the tension. You can do this for up to 30 minutes, you can even use the lengths of your favorite tv show episodes for each foot.

In this day and age it’s hard to imagine going through a day’s work without feeling pressure from others, physical aches and pain, or the increasing weight of stress and anxiety as your to-do list builds up. Nevertheless we can’t forget those moments of feeling overworked, and your brain just can’t seem to maintain focus. We are moving through our work and our days continously, forgetting about smelling the roses, forgetting that there is some kind of connection between your body and your mind. Forgetting about living in harmony.

Living in harmony with yourself and those around you can also mean being securely grounded with yourself and your environment. Living in harmony is feeling your mind become tied to your body, being aware of the energy within yourself and your capabilities you hold. Harmony with your body and mind is the two working together not to get the work done, but to create the aura of being calm and productive and secure. Finding your harmony within yourself takes time, and patience. In these busy days it seems almost impossible to separate yourself from your overloading to-do list, but the good news is, it’s incredibly possible.

The path to your harmony = Incorporating a wellness system for yourself in your schedule. How might you do that? Break apart your priorities, list what is most important. Take out the time of the unnecessary inconvenient activities that may hold you back. Search for what you do to wind down, and replace it with this plan of not only finding relaxation for yourself, but finding activities that only have beneficial long-term effects.

Personalized Harmony is here to lead you to your path to wellness. In our services we can reconnect the energy between your physical body and your mind to become more harmonious. We can reduce the tension and pain that gets in the way of you being your best physical self. Allow us to guide you to your personalized route to being harmonious with your body and mind.
